A week south from the Pitons of St Lucia down through the Grenadines, where the islands shrink and multiply and the water shallows to a colour that looks retouched. It ends on Grenada, land of nutmeg, cocoa and some of the finest rum in the region.

Day 1

Marigot Bay

Begin in the perfectly hidden hurricane hole of Marigot Bay, jade hills closing in on three sides. Hike the ridge for the view down onto the water, then take the first evening slowly.

Day 2

The Pitons

Anchor between Gros Piton and Petit Piton, the seabed dropping sheer below the yacht. Snorkel the reef beneath the spires, or visit the sulphur springs and mud baths at Soufriere.

Day 3

Bequia

Cross to Bequia, an unpretentious boatbuilding island and the better for it. Visit the turtle sanctuary, wander the harbour, and anchor off a quiet beach.

Day 4

Mustique

Sail to privately owned Mustique, a hundred villas and no hotels to speak of. Basil Bar keeps a no-photographs rule everyone honours; take a golf cart, an empty beach and a rum punch at sunset.

Day 5

Tobago Cays

Five uninhabited cays behind a horseshoe reef in a well-guarded marine park. Swim among grazing green turtles, climb Petit Bateau for the view, and dine on a crew barbecue on the sand.

Day 6

The Southern Grenadines

Drift through the southern islands, snorkelling patch reefs and swimming from deserted sandbars wherever the water calls, with the yacht lying just offshore.

Day 7

Grenada

The week ends at Grenada, scented with nutmeg, its capital St George a horseshoe of pastel houses around a drowned crater. Dive the underwater sculpture park and toast a week down the Grenadines.
